Origami (BTS)
Sara, a woman trapped in an abusive relationship with Sergio, finds solace and hope through the art of origami. The broken window in her room serves as a metaphor for her shattered life, but also becomes a source of inspiration. Through whispered instructions, Sara teaches herself to fold paper birds, finding a sense of empowerment in the creation process. Despite Sergio’s controlling behaviour and the oppressive atmosphere of her home, Sara perseveres, seeking ways to communicate her distress to the outside world.
As Sara’s desperation grows, she resorts to subtle acts of defiance. With careful precision, she crafts her plea for help onto the wings of her paper bird, symbolizing her longing for freedom. Through small gestures of resistance, Sara asserts her agency and refuses to succumb to Sergio’s dominance.
Risking discovery to reach out for assistance, Sara’s resolve solidifies, symbolizing her determination to break free from her captivity. With a final act of defiance, Sara escapes from the confines of her home, fleeing towards an uncertain but hopeful future.
“Origami gives us a peek into the abusive relationship that women sometimes have to face withing their own homes and dives into the resilience, defiance, and the enduring human spirit in the face of adversity.”
